Instant Coffee Horse Trainer and Jockey

Instant Coffee is trained by the accomplished Brad Cox. The two-time Eclipse Award winner has never won the Preakness Stakes, but he does have two Triple Crown victories to his name, having trained Mandaloun and Essential Quality to win the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, respectively, in 2021.

More Preakness Stakes 2023 coverage:

It remains to be seen who'll be Instant Coffee's jockey for the 2023 Preakness Stakes. He's raced with Luis Saez in the past — one of the top jockeys in the sport today. Saez rode Essential Quality to victory at the 2021 Belmont Stakes while his best Preakness finish was when he placed second in 2018.

Instant Coffee Race History

Instant Coffee has a career record of five starts with three victories. He enters the Preakness Stakes following a sixth-place showing at Fair Grounds back on March 25.

Instant Coffee Preakness Prediction and Pick

On one hand, Instant Coffee's resume looks solid on paper, having won 60% of his previous five races. On the other hand, it's been nearly two months since his last race, which saw him finish in sixth place. Nevertheless, it's hard to doubt the combo of Cox and Saez after coming together to win the 2021 Belmont Stakes.

Although I wouldn't bet the house on him, Instant Coffee makes for an interesting dark horse pick this week.
