Bowl game season is an exciting time in college football. Schools across the nation will battle it out for postseason glory and a chance to end their year on a high note.

One team that's no stranger to playing in bowl games is the Illinois Fighting Illini. Here's everything you need to know about Illinois' bowl history before making its next appearance.

Illinois Bowl Game History

Illinois has had a consistent presence in college football's postseason. The Fighting Illini have appeared in 19 bowl games all-time prior to Monday's ReliaQuest Bowl.

The school's first bowl game ever was the Rose Bowl following the 1946 season. Illinois took down UCLA 45-14 in that contest for its first postseason win. That kicked off a streak of three straight bowl wins, all of which came at the Rose Bowl (1946, 1951, 1964).

The Fighting Illini's most recent postseason appearance was in the 2019 Redbox Bowl. Illinois matched up against California in that one, and ultimately fell 35-20 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
