The Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers meet head-to-head in Summer League action on Sunday night. The Hornets were unable to dig out of an early hole against the Indiana Pacers on Friday and fell 96-84. Rookie Bryce McGowens led the way with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Meanwhile, the Lakers got walloped by the Phoenix Suns in their opening game, 104-84. LA shot only 34.6% from the floor and 26.2% from three-point range in a dismal showing. It wasn't all bad news, though, as undrafted rookie Scottie Pippen Jr. poured in 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Hornets vs Lakers Prediction & Pick

The Hornets showed a lot of fight in their opening game, outrebounding the Pacers and posting 16 assists on 30 made buckets. The only problem was they turned the ball over 18 times and shot 22.6% from beyond the arc. There's not enough talent on Charlotte's roster to overcome sloppy play.

Almost everything went wrong for the Lakers in their first game, but that means it can only get better from here. LA did capitalize on their physicality by getting to the free throw line 35 times. If the coaching staff can find a way to get rookie Max Christie going, the Lakers could surprise people.

I'll take a chance on a Lakers team playing with nothing to lose to earn a victory (+104).
