Henry Q Preakness Horse Odds, History and Predictions (Ability to Rise to Level of Competitors Will be Crucial)

Updated:

The 2023 Kentucky Derby is in the rearview mirror, meaning horse racing fans are now looking ahead to the 2023 Preakness Stakes as it is set to take place just before 7 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 20.

One contender everyone has their eyes on ahead of this race is Henry Q, who enters as one of the more experienced horses in the field. Here's everything you need to know about this colt before he vies for the 2023 Preakness title.

Henry Q Preakness Odds and Post Position

Henry Q owns 14-1 odds to win the Preakness Stakes prior to post positions being announced on Monday evening. It's a mark that trails only three other horses in the field, but it's a mark that is also tied with a pair of other competitors (Confidence Game & National Treasure).

Henry Q Horse Trainer and Jockey

Henry Q is trained by Todd Fincher, who continues to gain recognition in the industry after sweeping the four stakes at Sunland Park in late February. He took over the reins on Henry Q from Doug O'Neill following the horses' first three races of the year.

Henry Q's jockey for the 2023 Preakness is Lanfranco Dettori. The 52-year-old is set to retire after this horse racing season, which only adds to the anticipation of his appearance at the Preakness.

Henry Q Race History

Henry Q has a career record of six starts and two wins with two third-place finishes all-time. He'll run in the Preakness just under three months since his most recent victory, which came at the Mine That Bird Derby in late February. The colt emerged victorious by 14 3/4 lengths in that one.

Henry Q Preakness Prediction and Pick

Henry Q may be tied for the fourth-best odds to win the Preakness, but he remains an overlooked horse in a field full of recognizable names. The colt has done nothing but impress in 2023, though, logging a pair of outright wins as well as three top-four finishes. It's worth mentioning here that Henry Q enters with a veteran jockey on his back and an up-and-coming trainer with him in preparation. That gives him a shot to turn some heads on Saturday. Henry Q has not taken a noticeable step back in his results despite seeing the level of his competitors rise, giving him upside as a contender here.
