The New York Giants clinched a playoff berth in Week 17 with a win over the Indianapolis Colts. That win earned the luxury of resting some key players in Week 18, in order to avoid injury and get as prepared as possible for their Wild-Card round playoff game.
Giants Week 18 Starting Quarterback
It was confirmed on Saturday that former 2017 Giants third-round pick Davis Webb will get the start. Daniel Jones will indeed sit.
Along with Jones, Saquon Barkley and a number of other key players are also expected to remain on the sideline in Week 18.
Webb, despite being drafted by the Giants in 2017, has still never thrown a pass in an NFL regular season game. He did enter a game in 2021 for the Buffalo Bills, but his only recorded stat is one rush for negative three yards.
Webb will get a chance to actually show people what he can do on an NFL field. It's a rare opportunity. As a third-round pick, you expect to at least get a chance to throw a pass in the league by now, but it's also even rarer to not have done so and consistently remain in the league during that span. Clearly, Webb is showing signs behind closed doors that are giving the powers that be confidence.
The Giants are currently 16.5-point road underdogs against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 18, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest NFL odds.
