Game-by-Game Predictions for the Bills' Entire 2022 Schedule

Game-by-Game Predictions for the Bills' Entire 2022 Schedule

Updated:

The Buffalo Bills head into the 2022-23 NFL regular season as a clear Super Bowl contender. Buffalo has been unable to break through and make a SB appearance during the Josh Allen era, but after several strong additions this offseason, the stars could be aligning for a deep playoff run.

How the Bills perform during their 17-game regular-season schedule will set the tone for their championship aspirations. Here's our week-by-week predictions for Buffalo's entire 2022-23 schedule:

Bills Game-by-Game Predictions 2022

1. Thursday, Sept. 8: Bills @ Los Angeles Rams

This game kicks off the 2022 NFL regular season and serves as a celebration of the defending champion Los Angeles Rams. Buffalo will look to spoil the fun with a road win. This is set to be Von Miller's first game in a Bills jersey, and he'll want to make an immediate impact facing his previous team.

Los Angeles has a few question marks heading into the year. Cam Akers is coming off of a relatively quiet postseason following his ACL tear, Odell Beckham Jr. remains a free agent, and Tyler Higbee is recovering from knee surgery. The Bills' high-powered offense should be able to out-gun LA in what's likely to be a shootout.

Prediction: Bills win (1-0)

2. Monday, Sept. 19: Bills vs. Tennessee Titans

The Bills get a whopping 10 days of rest before suiting up for a Monday Night Football clash against the Tennessee Titans. Recent matchups have gone in the Titans' favor, with Tennessee winning each of the last two meetings, including a 34-31 victory in Week 6 last season.

However, Tennessee's offense will be reeling from the loss of star wide receiver A.J. Brown, and there's no telling if offseason addition Robert Woods (or rookie Treylon Burks) will be ready to handle WR1 duties by then as he recovers from an ACL tear. Derrick Henry has been a major thorn in Buffalo's side, but additions like Miller and Shaq Lawson should help slow down this one-dimensional offense.

Prediction: Bills win (2-0)

3. Sunday, Sept. 19: Bills @ Miami Dolphins

This could be a sneaky test in the early part of the schedule. Buffalo easily swept the Miami Dolphins last season, but this team has made major strides to improve its offense. Terron Armstead has arrived to lead the offensive line, Tyreek Hill will be Tua Tagovailoa's new star wideout, and Miami's nonexistent run game now features the likes of Chase Edmonds and Sony Michel.

That new-look offense, plus a top-10 unit in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA metric last season, is a serious threat to begin the year. I'll pick the upstart Dolphins to pull off the upset at home.

Prediction: Bills lose (2-1)

4. Sunday, Oct. 2: Bills @ Baltimore Ravens

Despite catastrophic injury troubles throughout last season, the Baltimore Ravens still gutted out eight wins in 2021. This team is now set to enter 2022 at full strength, giving this run-focused offense its two top rushers in J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards back healthy. The Ravens doubled down on their hard-nosed play style this offseason, nabbing top center Tyler Linderbaum in the first round.

Baltimore's secondary could also pose plenty of problems for Buffalo after several key additions. First-rounder Kyle Hamilton and free-agent signing Marcus Williams will help form perhaps the league's strongest safety group alongside cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey. Baltimore is well-suited to slow the game down and play at the pace it wants.

Prediction: Bills lose (2-2)

5. Sunday, Oct. 9: Bills vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Here's where the Bills get back on track. The Pittsburgh Steelers are searching for a new identity after Ben Roethlisberger's retirement, and their current options aren't anything to be worried about. Kenny Pickett fell in the first round for a reason, while Mitchell Trubisky remains a big question mark after being a backup in 2021 behind Josh Allen.

Buffalo's familiarity with Trubisky should help this defense shut him down, and if it's Pickett starting, good luck to the rookie against this elite secondary.

Prediction: Bills win (3-2)

6. Sunday, Oct. 16: Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs

This is a game everyone has circled on their calendars. These squads will finally have a rematch after their electric Divisional Round showdown last postseason, and the Bills will want revenge after archaic overtime rules kept Allen off of the field.

Kansas City looks a bit different this time around, though. The Chiefs have lost Hill, Tyrann Mathieu and Charvarius Ward this offseason, all key members from their 2019 Super Bowl team. Patrick Mahomes will still be getting on the same page with his new weapons at this point in the year, and KC may be starting a rookie cornerback in Ward's place, giving the clear advantage to the Bills' Allen-led offense.

Prediction: Bills win (4-2)

7. BYE WEEK

8. Sunday, Oct. 30: Bills vs. Green Bay Packers

The Bills have a few things going in their favor ahead of this primetime matchup. They'll be feeling refreshed following a bye week after a tough opening slate. The bye also gives them extra time to game plan for Aaron Rodgers, who will still be in the early stages of getting used to his new pass-catchers after losing Davante Adams this offseason.

The Packers didn't add any WR1-quality players in the wake of Adams' departure, leaving the likes of Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, and rookie Christian Watson to carry the load. That pales in comparison to the trio of Stefon Diggs/Gabriel Davis/Jameson Crowder, which should give Buffalo the edge with two top defenses going at it.

Prediction: Bills win (5-2)

9. Sunday, Nov. 6: Bills @ New York Jets

The New York Jets are making strides in their rebuild, adding an impressive 2022 draft class headlined by CB Sauce Gardner and WR Garrett Wilson. Gardner will join a revamped secondary that also welcomed in D.J. Reed and Jordan Whitehead, improving a glaring hole that makes this defense respectable.

Still, Allen should have little trouble outpacing a second-year Zach Wilson.

Prediction: Bills win (6-2)

10. Sunday, Nov. 13: Bills vs. Minnesota Vikings

This Week 10 meeting projects to be a scoring-filled matchup between two exciting offenses. The Minnesota Vikings are already experimenting with new schemes under first-year head coach Kevin O'Connell, which could lead to the likes of Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson and Dalvin Cook hitting new heights.

Buffalo's defense could be the deciding factor once again, though. Plus, Stefon Diggs will have plenty of motivation to ball out opposite of Jefferson and show his old team what they're missing.

Prediction: Bills win (7-2)

11. Sunday, Nov. 20: Bills vs. Cleveland Browns

Who's starting for the Cleveland Browns will go a long way in deciding this matchup. Deshaun Watson's off-field legal troubles put a cloud over his availability for the 2022 season. That could leave Jacoby Brissett as the starter, especially if disgruntled former starter Baker Mayfield is traded before then.

It seems like the Browns would have a disadvantage at QB either way, fielding the less-than-intimidating Brissett, or Watson, who could still be adjusting to a new team if a suspension keeps him out for the early part of the year.

Prediction: Bills win (8-2)

12. Thursday, Nov. 24: Bills @ Detroit Lions

Buffalo will unfortunately head into a Thanksgiving meeting with the Detroit Lions on a short week, playing on just three days rest. The Lions are putting together an impressive rebuild, but the Bills' are the more talented team on both sides of the ball. They should prevail, even on tired legs.

Prediction: Bills win (9-2)

13. Thursday, Dec. 1: Bills @ New England Patriots

Recent history is in the Bills' favor here. Buffalo has defeated the New England Patriots in four of their last five meetings, including last year's 47-17 drubbing in the Wild Card Round. New England had one of the most maligned offseasons in the league, making confusing decisions during the draft and throughout free agency. As long as there's no Snowmadgeddon Part 2, Buffalo should keep rolling.

Prediction: Bills win (10-2)

14. Sunday, Dec. 11: Bills vs. Jets

Buffalo gets extra rest for its second matchup with New York in Week 14. The Bills have swept the Jets in each of the past two seasons, and this win should lock in a third straight perfect record against their AFC East foe.

Prediction: Bills win (11-2)

15. Sunday, Dec. 18: Bills vs. Dolphins

Another AFC East rematch, Buffalo gets the chance to make up for their predicted early-season loss at the hands of Miami. The Bills will be in a groove at this point if they ride in on a nine-game win streak, and I'll take them to push it to 10.

Prediction: Bills win (12-2)

16. Saturday, Dec. 24: Bills @ Chicago Bears

The Bills then head to Chicago for some Christmas Eve action against the Bears. This NFC North team has had a perplexing offseason that's seen very little help arrive for sophomore gunslinger Justin Fields. Buffalo's intimidating D-line and secondary should make Fields' day the nightmare before Christmas.

Prediction: Bills win (13-2)

17. Monday, Jan. 2: Bills @ Cincinnati Bengals

This Monday Night Football matchup should be must-see TV. The Bills will face off against the Super Bowl runner-up Cincinnati Bengals, who have been praised for their additions this offseason. Cincinnati had a glaring need on the offensive line, so the team added Alex Cappa, Ted Karras, and La'el Collins to solidify Joe Burrow's protection.

An improved Bengals secondary adds another element to this Allen vs. Burrow showdown. With home-field advantage behind them, and the league's best WR trio, Cincinnati finally snaps Buffalo's win streak.

Prediction: Bills lose (13-3)

18. Sunday, Jan. 8: Bills vs. Patriots

Heading into this contest at 13-3 would put the Bills in prime position for the top seed in the AFC. Tennessee captured the No. 1 seed at 12-5 last year, and this conference got even better, which should allow Buffalo to ride an easy schedule all the way to the top. As a result, this regular-season finale likely won't mean much to a squad gearing up for a Super Bowl run. New England, who might still be in the playoff hunt at this point, gets the win as the Bills rest their starters for at least part of the game.

Prediction: Bills lose (13-4)
