Steelers Week 1 Opponent for 2023 Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 1 matchup for the 2023 campaign is a home game against the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, they opened with a road game on Sunday afternoon against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers emerged victorious by a score of 23-20 in overtime thanks to kicker Chris Boswell's 53-yard field goal.

Steelers' 2023 Strength of Schedule

According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Steelers have the 11th-easiest schedule in the NFL for the 2023-24 season. This is based on the projected win total of Pittsburgh's opponents for the upcoming campaign. It works out in the Steelers' favor considering six teams (Eagles, 49ers, Jaguars, Cowboys, Chargers, Chiefs) made the playoffs last year with a top-seven schedule in terms of ease. Pittsburgh is right on the brink of that mark.

The Steelers' 2023-24 opponents went a combined 105-130-2 last season. They'll have the advantage of facing a trio of teams in the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Arizona Cardinals that tallied less than five wins during the 2022-23 campaign.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Steelers at 8.5 wins, with -112 odds on the over and -108 odds on the under. Pittsburgh has won nine games in eight of the last nine seasons, and has not recorded a losing campaign since 2003.

The Steelers have remarkably avoided having a losing record in any season guided by Tomlin. He has a knack for bringing out the best in his players. There are question marks around Pittsburgh's defensive depth after a few free agent losses, but the offense was improved in the offseason with the signing of offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo and the drafting of offensive lineman Broderick Jones. Quarterback Kenny Pickett is protected more so now than he was as a rookie in 2022. A number of advantageous matchups against rebuilding teams provides the Steelers a great chance at crushing their win total.

Bet – Steelers: Over 8.5 Wins (-112)

In the Super Bowl market, the Steelers currently are tied (with the Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders) for the 23rd-best odds at +6000. They only check in ahead of the Houston Texans (+18000), Arizona Cardinals (+18000), Indianapolis Colts (+10000), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+7500) and Tennessee Titans (+7500).
