Cowboys Week 1 Opponent for 2023 Season

The Dallas Cowboys' Week 1 matchup for the 2023 campaign takes place on the road against the rival New York Giants. Last season, they opened with a home game on Sunday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Unfortunately, the Cowboys fell 19-3 as Dak Prescott was forced to leave the game with a major thumb injury.

Cowboys' 2023 Strength of Schedule

According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Cowboys have the 10th-hardest schedule in the NFL for the 2023-24 campaign. This is based on the projected win totals of Dallas' opponents for the upcoming season. The Cowboys will face a tall task given their upcoming slate, as just two teams (Chiefs, Bengals) made the playoffs last year with a top-10 schedule in terms of difficulty.

The Cowboys' 2023-24 opponents went a combined 125-110-2 last season. They'll face a trio of teams in the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers that won at least 13 games during the 2022-23 campaign.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Cowboys at 9.5 wins, with -150 on the over and +120 on the under. Dallas has won 12 games in back-to-back seasons, and recorded at least 10 victories in five of the last nine campaigns overall.

Though the Cowboys draw some tough opponents from the AFC East, NFC West and their own division in 2023-24, there's still a solid path to 10 wins here. Dallas' offseason upgrades should benefit this team greatly, with the offense getting a boost after acquiring Brandin Cooks, and veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore ready to bolster this secondary. Even despite terrible injury luck last season, the 'Boys rattled off 12 wins, so this squad should be able to at least rival that total in 2023 with their additions.

Bet – Cowboys: Over 9.5 Wins (-150)

In the Super Bowl market, the Cowboys currently are tied (with the New York Jets) for the sixth-best odds at +1400. They only trail the Kansas City Chiefs (+600), Philadelphia Eagles (+850), Buffalo Bills (+900), San Francisco 49ers (+950) and Cincinnati Bengals (+1000).
