Chiefs Week 1 Opponent for 2023 Season

The Kansas City Chiefs' Week 1 matchup for the 2023 campaign will be a cross-conference matchup against the Detroit Lions, who are trending up after going 9-8 last year. The game will be played on Thursday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium.

Chiefs' 2023 Strength of Schedule

According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Chiefs have the third-hardest schedule in the NFL for the 2023-24 campaign. This is based on the projected win totals of Kansas City's opponents for the upcoming season. The Chiefs find themselves in a similar spot to the one they were in last year, as they were one of two teams (Bengals) to make the playoffs with a top-10 schedule in terms of difficulty.

The Chiefs' 2023-24 opponents went a combined 126-110 last season. They'll face a trio of teams in the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and Minnesota Vikings that won at least 13 games during the 2022-23 campaign.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Chiefs at 11.5 wins, with -128 odds on the over and +104 odds on the under. Kansas City has won at least 12 games in six of the last seven NFL seasons.

Though the Chiefs draw some tough opponents from the AFC East and NFC North, this is a team that has yet to win less than 12 games under Mahomes' offensive leadership. Keep in mind three of the Chiefs' four games against teams that won at least 12 games last season will be played at Arrowhead. The front office was able to find a replacement for offensive lineman Orlando Brown in Jawaan Taylor and also signed veteran Donovan Smith to protect the pocket. Even with a few upset losses thrown in there, Kansas City has a clear path to 12 wins in an AFC West division they have dominated for years.

Bet – Chiefs: Over 11.5 Wins (-128)

In the Super Bowl market, the Chiefs currently lead the pack with the best odds at +600. That checks in ahead of some other NFL powerhouses such as the Philadelphia Eagles (+850) and Buffalo Bills (+900).
