Chargers Week 1 Opponent for 2023 Season

The Los Angeles Chargers' Week 1 matchup takes place at home against the Miami Dolphins. Last season, they opened with a home game on Sunday afternoon against the Las Vegas Raiders. LA emerged victorious by a score of 24-19 as outside linebacker Khalil Mack tallied 3.0 sacks.

Chargers' 2023 Strength of Schedule

According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Chargers have the seventh-hardest schedule in the NFL for the 2023-24 season. This is based on the projected win totals of LA's opponent for the upcoming campaign. The Chargers will face a tall task given their upcoming slate, as just two teams (Chiefs, Bengals) made the playoffs last year with a top-10 schedule in terms of difficulty.

The Chargers' 2023-24 opponents went a combined 124-113 last season. They'll face a trio of teams in the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Minnesota Vikings that won at least 13 games during the 2022-23 campaign.

FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds currently list the Chargers at 9.5 wins, with -128 odds on the over and +104 on the under. The Chargers tallied 10 wins during the 2022-23 season, but have tallied less than 10 wins in 11 of the last 13 NFL campaigns overall.

The 2023-24 schedule certainly doesn't do the Chargers any favors. Facing the Chiefs twice is never easy and now LA also has to go up against playoff teams like the Bills, Vikings, and Cowboys as well. The Chargers were able to log 10 wins last year despite going 2-4 in the AFC West due to a relatively favorable schedule. Without that advantage, LA could struggle considering they made little to no upgrades on the defensive side of the ball. A season with eight or nine wins seems likely here.

Bet – Chargers: Under 9.5 Wins (+104)

In the Super Bowl market, the Chargers currently are tied (with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins) for the 10th-best odds. They trail the Kansas City Chiefs (+600) in their own division, but check in well ahead of both the Denver Broncos (+4500) and the Las Vegas Raiders (+5500).
