The Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions will meet head-to-head in preseason action at 6 p.m. ET on Friday night. Fans will be getting their first look at quarterback Marcus Mariota and an improved Falcons defense. Cornerback Casey Hayward and linebacker Lorenzo Carter were big offseason signings.
Meanwhile, Detroit fans will catch a glimpse of quarterback Jared Goff's connection with new wide receivers DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds. The Lions haven't won a preseason game since 2018, so it's safe to say they will be hungry for a victory in front of the home crowd at Ford Field.

Falcons vs Lions Prediction & Pick
Preseason matchups tend to come down to which team has more to play for. That would be the Detroit Lions right now. Hard Knocks shown us that head coach Dan Campbell has his team fired up and he has already stated that his starters will play close to a quarter. That cannot be overlooked.
As for the Falcons, it wouldn't be surprising to see a few early hiccups for quarterback Marcus Mariota as he adjusts to a new offense. These teams went a combined 0-6 in preseason action last year, but Detroit's average loss margin (5.7 points) greatly outshined that of Atlanta's (16.3 points).
Final Score Prediction: Falcons: 13 | Lions: 20

- The total has hit the under in five of Detroit's last six games against Atlanta.
Falcons vs Lions Best Bet

Betting on preseason winners is always risky, but there's a lot to like about the Lions on Friday. Their starters will be on the field for at least a handful of series before giving way to the backups. That is when Tim Boyle and David Blough will lead the offense, two quarterbacks with NFL experience.
The Falcons will likely turn to third-round pick Desmond Ridder once they've seen enough of Mariota in action. Ridder has yet to play an NFL snap and his play will likely go one of two ways. He'll either ball out or look like a rookie. Let's go latter and trust that it'll take some time for Ridder to adjust.
Bet: Detroit Lions Moneyline (+100)
