Falcons Get Big Cordarrelle Patterson Injury Update for Week 9

Updated:

Through eight weeks of the NFL season, the Atlanta Falcons surprisingly find themselves in first place in the NFC South at 4-4. Even more impressively, they've managed to do so largely without star running back Cordarrelle Patterson, who hasn't played since Week 4 due to a knee injury.

On Wednesday, the Falcons received another encouraging injury update on Patterson that suggests he is nearing a return.

Patterson came off the IR and returned to practice on Wednesday as Atlanta prepares for its Week 9 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers. Depending on how Patterson looks and responds, he may be able to suit up on Sunday.

If so, he would provide a massive boost to a Falcons offense that ranks sixth in points per game but 25th in yards per game. Given his ability to rack up yards through the air and on the ground, Patterson could certainly help in the latter category.

The four-time Pro Bowler was off to a strong start before going down, tallying 368 total yards and 3 touchdowns through his first four games. He'll look to pick up where he left off when he returns to game action, which could be as soon as this weekend.

As it stands, the Falcons are currently 3.5-point home underdogs against the Chargers on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
