Edmonton Oilers First Round Playoff Schedule 2023 (Times, Dates and TV Channel for Kings Series)

Updated:

The Edmonton Oilers are back in the NHL Playoffs after a successful 2022-23 season. This year marks the Oilers' fourth consecutive playoff appearance, leaving many wondering if this is the postseason that they finally get over the hump once and for all.

Here's everything you need to know about the Oilers' first round series.

What Seed Are the Oilers in the 2023 NHL Playoffs?

The Oilers finished the 2022-23 NHL regular season with a 50-23-9 record, which earned them the No. 2 spot in the Pacific Division. Edmonton also became the first team since the 1995-96 Pittsburgh Penguins to have three 100-point players; Connor McDavid (153), Leon Draisaitl (128) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (104).

The Kings were in the playoffs last season as well, but were ultimately swept by the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference Finals.

Who Are the Oilers Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the Pacific Division's No. 2 team, the Oilers will play the Kings -- who posted the third-best record in the division -- in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (Edmonton) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if those are necessary. The worse seed (Los Angeles) hosts Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if that is necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Oilers win this series and advance, they would face either the 1-seed Vegas Golden Knights or the Winnipeg Jets (second-place wild card team) in the Western Conference semifinals.
