Early 2023-24 NFL MVP Odds Reveal Surprising Favorite

Updated:

Now that another NFL season is behind us, it's time to start looking ahead to the next one! Football fans already have their eye on what promises to be an exciting 2023-24 campaign.

That includes the sportsbooks, too, which already have odds up for a handful of futures bets. Sports bettors can already wager on things like who will win the next Super Bowl and who will win next year's MVP award.

Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes just won MVP for the second time in five years, but he's surprisingly not the favorite to win next year's award on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds. So who is? Let's dig in to find out.

2023 NFL MVP Odds

As usual, the list of MVP favorites is dominated by quarterbacks with Josh Allen at the top. Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow are tied for second, with fellow gunslingerJustin Herbert in fourth at +900.

Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts are tied for fifth at +1200. Both QBs were playing at an MVP-caliber level in 2022 before injuries derailed their seasons, so they're intriguing bets if they can stay healthy.

A bit further down the list, Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott are tied for sixthat +1600. Jackson has won an MVP before, but both he and Prescott have had trouble staying on the field in recent seasons. Lawrence is trending up after a strong finish to 2022, and this could be the year we see the former No. 1 overall pick put it all together.

Four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers rounds out the top 10 in a tie with Deshaun Watson and Brock Purdy at +2500. For the rest of the candidates, check out the full list on FanDuel Sportsbook's MVP odds.

7. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars (+1600)

8. Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys (+1600)

10. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers (+2500)

2023 NFL MVP Best Bet

Surprisingly, Allen is currently favored to win MVP next season with +170 odds. Mahomes and his AFC rival Burrow are tied for second at +700.

Allen's been touted as an MVP candidate for the past several years now, but he's still never actually won the award. His odds also don't have much value at +170, so we'll look elsewhere for our best bet.

Mahomes is a good bet to repeat at +700, but that means he'll likely need to repeat or exceed his numbers from 2022 to win again. Considering that he's coming off one of the best seasons of his career, that won't be easy.

Instead, we prefer Burrow at the same odds (+700). Assuming the Bengals don't trade Tee Higgins, he'll once again be surrounded by a stellar supporting cast with Higgins, Ja'Marr Chase, Joe Mixon and others. His first three seasons have been excellent, but he could be ready to take his game to new heights in Year 4 at age 26 now that he has a couple of deep playoff runs under his belt.

Burrow finished fourth on this year's ballot, but don't be surprised if he's at the top when the dust settles next year.

Bet: Joe Burrow (+700)
