The Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions meet in an exciting Week 1 NFC battle to kick off their NFL seasons. The Eagles are looking to secure a playoff berth for the fifth time in the last six seasons and quarterback Jalen Hurts is the one tasked with leading them there. It's a make or break year for him.

Meanwhile, the Lions have improvement on their mind after winning only three of their 17 games in 2021. Running back D'Andre Swift and tight end TJ Hockenson are both back from injury to lead the offense. Whether or not Detroit will surprise some people comes down to how their defense plays.

The updates on this line bring considerable changes, as the Eagles have become more favored on the spread and moneyline. The total is holding steady, however, at 48.5 points, making it one of the higher totals on the Week 1 slate.

Eagles vs Lions Prediction & Pick

The Eagles and Lions met at Ford Field in 2021 and it resulted in a 44-6 blowout win for the visiting team. The score may not be that lopsided this time around, but a victory for Philadelphia should still be expected. This is a team that has won five of its last six season openers dating back to 2015.

The receiving duo of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith should have no trouble picking apart a Detroit defense that posted the sixth-worst pass defense DVOA rating in 2021. An early lead should allow the Eagles to work the clock with a strong rushing attack and keep their foot on the pedal all day long.

Final Score Prediction: Eagles: 31 | Lions: 14

Eagles vs Lions Betting Trends

- Philadelphia is 8-4 straight up in its last 12 games against Detroit.
- The total has hit the under in four of Philadelphia's last five away games.
- Detroit is 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last five home games.
- The total has hit the over in each of Detroit's last eight games against Philadelphia.

Eagles vs Lions Best Bet

All NFL betting lines, odds and prop bets are available on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Outside of a tie in 2019, the Lions have lost each of their last three season openers by at least four points. Detroit has also been outscored by 70 points in their last 10 matchups against Philadelphia. Head coach Dan Campbell's team is going to have a hard time keeping this game close in Week 1.

The Eagles have their eyes set on winning a Super Bowl this year and getting Hurts comfortable will be crucial in those efforts. Look for him to put pressure on Detroit's underwhelming defense and guide his team to a double-digit victory. Backing Philadelphia to cover the spread is a smart bet.

Bet: Philadelphia Eagles -5.5 (-110)
