Eagles Insider Provides Update on C.J. Gardner-Johnson's Free Agency

Updated:

The first week of free agency saw a ton of money thrown at the top players on the market. One notable name still available, though, is safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

Philadelphia Eagles fans are anxious to know if CJGJ will cash in following a career year, or if there's a shot he returns to this secondary. One team insider discussed Gardner-Johnson's slow market on Sunday.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer gave his thoughts on why things are mostly quiet around the free-agent safety. McLane believes it's the case of a player having lofty contract ideas that simply aren't in line with prospective teams, leading to him being unsigned.

This makes a ton of sense. There are several franchises around the league that should be lining up to add Gardner-Johnson to their secondary after his 2022 campaign. And there likely are, but they all have a number in mind for a potential deal. If the safety had heard a figure he liked, he would've been scooped up already.

At the very least, this opens the door for the rising 25-year-old to reunite with the Eagles. Replicating how he performed this past year would set him up to command a premium next offseason. It remains to be seen if he lowers his asking price in favor of securing a long-term deal now, however.
