Dodgers vs Braves Prediction & Pick
If the Dodgers want to end their funk, starting pitcher Gavin Stone must lead the charge. The highly-touted pitched prospect is back in the Majors after going 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Stone previously made his MLB debut on May 3, giving up five runs on eight hits over four innings in a 10-6 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Braves hope to get the same wheeling-and-dealing they've gotten from Charlie Morton so far in 2023. The two-time MLB All-Star has been terrific, pitching to a 5-3 record with a 2.85 ERA in eight starts. He's also allowed just two runs on 12 hits with 17 strikeouts over his last 12 2/3 innings pitched.
I like the Braves more in this matchup, especially from a pitching perspective. The Dodgers just gave up 32 runs over their four-game series with the Cardinals while their 5.75 ERA on the road ranks second-worst in the Majors. On top of that, Atlanta has an impressive 65.8% success rate as the favorite this season, whereas LA has lost three of its four matchups as the underdog.
With more recent success under their belt, too, look for the Braves to emerge as the victors.
Final Score Prediction: Braves: 5 | Dodgers: 3
Dodgers vs Braves Best Bet
For the best bet, I'm getting adventurous by taking Morton to record six-plus strikes plus a Braves victory at +135 odds. The 39-year-old veteran is averaging an impressive 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings and has racked up six-plus Ks in each of his last four starts. Furthermore, the Dodgers just struck out 11 times in their last outing.
The Braves are also in a good spot to win against an inexperienced pitcher. With how well Morton has performed to date, I'd be shocked if he doesn't have at least six strikeouts whilst leading Atlanta to victory.
Bet: Charlite Morton 6+ Strikeouts/BRaves to Win (+135)
