Disarm Kentucky Derby Horse Odds, History and Predictions (Can Joel Rosario Find Glory Once Again?)

Updated:

Kentucky Derby Week is finally here. In just a few short days, 20 of the world's best horses will participate in the 149th Run for the Roses and aim for eternal glory.

One underrated Kentucky Derby contender everyone has their eyes on ahead of this race is Disarm, who enters with an impressive jockey on his back. Here's everything you need to know about this colt before he vies for the 2023 Kentucky Derby crown.

Disarm Kentucky Derby Odds and Post Position

Disarm currently owns 30-1 Kentucky Derby betting odds after the post positions were drawn on Monday. It's a logical landing spot for the 3-year-old colt considering he checks in 16th among Derby hopefuls in terms of qualifying points (46).

Disarm Horse Trainer and Jockey

Disarm is trained by the renowned Steve Asmussen. The Hall of Famer has led multiple horses to second-place finishes (Epicenter & Nehro) and third-place finishes (Curlin & Gun Runner) at the Kentucky Derby in the past. Epicenter came within strides of capturing the title last year. Asmussen is notably North America's all-time leading trainer in terms of wins.

Disarm's jockey for the 2023 Kentucky Derby is Joel Rosario. The accomplished racer guided Orb to a 2 1/2-length victory in the 2013 Kentucky Derby and finished second aboard Epicenter in 2022. This will be the 2021 Eclipse Award-winning jockey's 12th Derby start of his career.

Disarm Race History

Disarm has a career record of 5 starts and 1 win with four second- or third-place finishes all-time. He enters the Derby on a three-race winless streak, though, as his lone victory came via a maiden win at Saratoga on Aug. 6, 2022.

Disarm Kentucky Derby Prediction and Pick

Disarm profiles as a horse that continues to improve with experience. He finds himself ranked in the middle of the pack prior to the Kentucky Derby, but there is reason for optimism considering he has yet to finish lower than third in any participating race. The colt has the benefit of having an all-time great in Rosario helping him on the track, as he will be looking to earn his second Derby title as a jockey. That shouldn't be taken lightly and makes Disarm a horse to keep an eye on.

Bettors shouldn't hesitate to back a rising horse like Disarm considering a longshot option won it all just last year.
