DeVonta Smith Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Watch for an Incoming 1,000-Yard Season)

Updated:

Expectations are always high for first-round draft picks and, fortunately, DeVonta Smith proved he was worth the hype last year. The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver had a terrific rookie season, ending the year as the WR30 in PPR fantasy football formats.

All eyes are on Smith taking things to the next level in his sophomore season. He has all the tools to be a standout wideout, but only time will tell if he can use those skills to have another productive fantasy campaign.

DeVonta Smith Fantasy Football Outlook

The Eagles weren't shy when it came to giving Smith a major role as a rookie. Once the season finished, the former Alabama product paced his fellow Philadelphia pass-catchers when it came to targets (104), receptions (64), receiving yards (916) and touchdowns (five).

The offseason reviews for Smith so far have been glowing, making it look like he's taken the right steps to continue his progression. Of course, his production will also determine on Jalen Hurts' play under center and if the third-year quarterback can step up his own game.

Something that could help Smith this fantasy season is A.J. Brown's presence in the WR room. The former Tennesee Titans wideout is one of the best young pass-catchers in the game and if opposing defenses focus on him, Smith can make them pay with his blistering speed.

DeVonta Smith Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook aren't that high on Smith. He's only available at +7500 odds to be the receiving yards leader this year, putting him in a tie for No. 39. He also sits at +7500 to pace the league in receiving TDs, ranking T-No. 38.

FanDuel has set Smith's projected receiving yards total at 825.5 with -112 odds on both the over and under. After averaging 14.3 yards per reception as a rookie, he'd need about 58 receptions to hit the over on this prop — six fewer than he saw in 2021.

Is DeVonta Smith a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

Smith is one of the better young wideouts that you can land on your fantasy football team. The fact that he's only 23 years old shows that his best days are still ahead of him and if Brown's arrival goes as smooth as planned, Smith could potentially hit the 1,000-yard mark this fall.

Smith currently clocks in as the WR35 on The Duel's PPR rankings ahead of the season. Meanwhile, Fantasy Pros lists his average draft position at 84.5, making him someone you'll likely have to draft before the end of Round 7 if you hope to roster him.
