Detroit Lions Training Camp Dates, Schedule & Location 2022

Updated:

Teams across the NFL are preparing to ramp up for the 2022 regular season with the start of training camp. The Detroit Lions are one of the last squads to take the field as the preseason nears.

Here's everything Lions fans need to know about training camp this year.

When Does Detroit Lions Training Camp Start?

Each team has two separate start dates for training camp, as rookies are often required to report a few days before veterans. The Lions had one of the later starts of teams across the league, with rookies reporting on Saturday, July 23.

Then, on Tuesday, July 26, Detroit's veterans are mandated to report for training camp. This gives just two weeks to prepare for the team's first preseason game on Aug. 12.

Lions Training Camp News

Lions fans were thrilled when their team landed former Alabama wideout Jameson Williams with the 12th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, the fanbase has wondered about his health after he suffered an ACL tear during this year's College Football Playoff National Championship.

When he was drafted in April, Williams said that his ACL recovery was ahead of schedule and that he hoped to be ready for training camp. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. The latest reports still point to him missing training camp and, perhaps, the beginning of the regular season.

The good news is that Lions management is still confident that he'll make a full recovery. Williams has potential to be a WR1 for years to come and it'll be interesting to see how he handles the transition to the NFL when he finally makes his debut.
