Deshaun Watson Takes Huge Step Toward Return for Browns

Updated:

After getting crushed by the Miami Dolphins, 39-17, on Sunday, the Cleveland Browns received some positive news on Monday regarding the status of suspended quarterback Deshaun Watson.

While Watson still won't be able to return for a little while, he is getting closer.

Watson is eligible to begin practicing with the Browns on Monday, giving him three full weeks to practice with his new team ahead of his Week 13 return against the Houston Texans on Dec. 4.

Per the terms of his suspension, the three-time Pro Bowler had not been able to practice with Cleveland since signing a massive five-year, $230 million contract with the Browns during the offseason. Watson is in the midst of serving an 11-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy.

While he has not been practicing with the club, Watson has been working out at the team's facility since Oct. 10. He'll now be able to practice with his teammates for the first time and attempt to build chemistry with them over the next few weeks.

The Browns have struggled in Watson's absence, going 3-6 with Jacoby Brissett under center. They're hopeful Watson can turn things around when he comes back, but it may be too late to salvage the season by that point. Cleveland currently has +810 odds of making the playoffs on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
