Derick Hall Scouting Report
Derick Hall is one of those players who seemed to get better with each passing college football season. He finished the 2022 campaign with a career-high 60 total tackles (11.5 for a loss), adding 6.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and an interception along the way. It was also the second straight year that he finished among the SEC's top 10 in tackles for loss, sacks and forced fumbles.
After being Auburn's best pass rusher over the last three seasons, Hall is ready for big things at the next level. He's a strong defender who can overpower offensive linemen, using his above-average speed to chase down opposing quarterbacks. His motor never quits too, which is something his NFL coaches will love.
Like most prospects, Hall has room for improvement. Sometimes his lack of patience gets the better of him, occasionally causing him to miss tackles or lose a ball carrier in a crowd. He also won't be able to dominate O-lines as easily as he did in college, so adding even more muscle and new moves could help.
Derick Hall NFL Draft Prediction
The majority of highlight draft experts see Derick Hall as a second-round pick and it's hard to disagree. He might be great at piling up sacks, but doing the same in the NFL will be anything but easy. He's not exactly a project pick, but he's far from being a guaranteed starter this fall.
That's why it makes sense for a team like the Philadelphia Eagles to take a swing at Hall. After all, the Eagles are already loaded on defense, so the pressure wouldn't be high for Hall to succeed out of the gate. Defensive coordinator Sean Desai and defensive line coach Tracy Rocker are both great at what they do, so they'd find a place for Hall to fit in.
If the Eagles want to be ready to move forward whenever the likes of Brandon Graham and Derek Barnett are ready to move on, they'll need a suitable replacement. Hall could be that player with the right coaching and development, making him a good choice for the Eagles on Day 2.
Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles (Round 2, 62nd overall)
