Derek Carr Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Potential For Best Season Yet)

Derek Carr Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Potential For Best Season Yet)

Updated:

Derek Carr has been one of the most underrated quarterbacks since becoming the Las Vegas Raiders' starting signal-caller in 2014. Now with Davante Adams at his disposal, Carr has the opportunity to have his best fantasy football year yet after finishing 2021 as the QB13 in PPR leagues.

Adams, Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller form one of the top pass-catching trios in the league, leaving no excuse for Carr not to have a fantastic year — both for the Raiders and fantasy managers alike.

Derek Carr Fantasy Football Outlook

Though he didn't crack the top 10 in fantasy, Carr still had a solid season to be proud of. He finished his eighth NFL campaign with 428 completions over 17 games for 4,804 passing yards and 23 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. Naturally, the Raiders hope to see a lower INT total this year.

As mentioned before, the weapons surrounding Carr are a quarterback's dream. Though Adams wasn't on the roster last year, the former Green Bay Packers wideout, Waller and Renfrow combined for over 3,200 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns last season, giving you a good idea of what Carr has to work with.

Plus, there's also running back Josh Jacobs, who's due for a bounce-back after failing to break 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in three years.

As long as the Raiders' offense lives up to the hype, there's no reason to be concerned about Carr's fantasy outlook. Throw in the fact that every AFC West game has the potential to be a shootout and it's easy to see why the Fresno, CA native's ceiling has never been higher.

Derek Carr Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are quite high on Carr. He's currently in a three-way tie for the sixth-best odds (+1100) to lead the league in passing yards while also being available at +1600 (T-No. 8) to finish as the NFL passing TDs leader.

FanDuel is also listing Carr's projected passing TDs total at 29.5 with -112 odds on both the over and under. The only time he threw for 30 TDs was back in 2015, however, there's potential for him to hit the over thanks to the weapons at his disposal.

Is Derek Carr a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

Carr is usually a serviceable fantasy option, but there's a good chance that he could be in the elite tier this year. He's never had this good of a team around him before and if the team performs as well as it looks on paper, fantasy managers could have a league-winning QB on their hands.

The Duel lists Carr as the QB13 when it comes to PPR player rankings. He also has an average draft position of 109.8 on Fantasy Pros, making him a player who likely won't be available soon after Round 10 begins in 12-team leagues.
