Del Mar Horse Racing Picks for Thursday 8/25/22

Updated:

Starting at 5:00 p.m. ET, we have 8 races Thursday at Del Mar "Where the Turf meets the Surf."

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

According to numberFire horse racing projections, these are the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.

FanDuel Racing Odds: 15/1 and 5/2

Race 2 is a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-old fillies sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf. Meta Girl (5/2) will go favored, and she debuts with a series of bullet works. But Ridin'thestormout (4/1) is the projected winner in her debut with a recent bullet work in place, according to the numberFire data. Longshot Loana (15/1) is projected to hit the board.

Bizzy Gal (6/1) got some betting support in her debut last month at Los Alamitos but never fired. She adds blinkers.

Loana looks plenty capable on debut. She has some fast-working drills and is a sibling to 2021 champion juvenile colt Corniche.

2. Daniel's Magic and My Harbors Dream, Race 6

FanDuel Racing Odds: 4/1 and 6/1

Race 6 is a Starter Allowance with 9 runners sprinting 5 furlongs on the turf. Daniel's Magic (4/1) won his last two races with 97 speed figures. He wheels back in two weeks off the win here and moves up one level after that sharp sharp turf-sprint win with leading jockey Umberto Rispoli riding again.

Inch (7/2) is the top pick of numberFire off his runner-up finish and best-ever speed figure (99). My Harbors Dream (6/1) also runs back off a race less than two weeks ago when he tired following a speed duel. The meets top jockey Juan Hernandez rides, and 'Dream' tries the turf for the first time after five dirt races.

3. Wedding Group and Cees Gets Degrees, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 6/1

Race 7 is a Claiming race with 10 runners sprinting 6 furlongs. Wedding Group (7/2) faces a weaker field and could wire these with a good break from the rail. Improved speed last month but tired in the stretch.

Moraweth (4/1) is the top pick by numberFire's algorithm, and he makes his second dirt start and drops in class for this race with an outside draw in post 10. Cees Gets Degrees (6/1) pressed and tired last race against tougher Allowance rivals, and he's projected to challenge for the win.
