Dark Horses Picks to Win the 2022 CJ Cup on FanDuel Sportsbook

Updated:

Last week's win by dark horse Keegan Bradley was a solid score for FanDuel bettors. The veteran won $1.98 million and the 36-year-olds victory at +2900 odds moved him up to No. 23 in the world golf rankings. Now the PGA Tour heads to South Carolina for the CJ Cup.

Congaree is a 5-year-old private golf club designed by Tom Fazio. It's a par 71 that plays to 7,655 yards and has bermudagrass fairways and greens. The course hosted its first PGA Tour event in 2021 for the Palmetto Championship won by first time PGA Tour longshot winner Garrick Higgo (-11).

A total of 15 of the top 20 players in the world golf rankings tee it up at Congaree, including top 10 players Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Matt Fitzpatrick.

CJ Cup Dark Horse Picks 2022

But beyond the leading favorites on FanDuel's odds to win, there are some dark horses who offer more value as capable contenders like Keegan Bradley on these pages last week.

With longshots in mind, here are three dark horses that could make a run at the leaderboard and come away with a high finish or victory on Sunday. Check out the CJ Cup odds along with finishing position odds and tournament match-ups on FanDuel Sportsbook.

1. Tyrrell Hatton (+4000)

The Tom Fazio design is long on the scorecard but built to play firm and fast. It has very wide fairways surrounded by waste areas in lieu of rough. The best and longest drivers in the field look to be at an advantage, but scrambling and hitting bold pitches from tight lies is a needed skillset around the greens with runoff areas and natural waste bunkers. Hatton's Putting and Short Game stats rank among the best in the field with strength on bermuda, firm and fast conditions, above average distance and solid Approach play and stats completing the Englishman's profile to have success.

2. Aaron Wise (+4500)

Wise also has an ideal player profile noted above with even greater length off the tee and strong greens in regulation stats. His strokes gained stats are solid across the board over his last 36 rounds with significant Short Game and Putting improvement. He's also top 10 in this field on Par 4 efficiency of 450+ yards. Adding performances from a number of comp courses including top 20 and strong final round in the 2021 PGA Championship on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, and Wise is a talented 26-year-old American player to bet on and consider at longer odds.

3. Mito Pereira (+5500)

Mito had a meltdown on the 72nd hole at the 2022 PGA Championship to cost him his first PGA Tour victory. But the 27-year-old Chilean has been striping it with top 10 stats in this field his last 36 rounds in Tee to Green, Ball Striking, Approach, Good Drives Gained and Greens in Regulation Gained. His 4th place finish in Las Vegas two weeks ago at 20-under par showed his ability to pour in birdies. Add in solid Par 4 efficiency stats of 400+ yards and top 10 stats on approach from 200+ yards and top 10 in Opportunities Gained, and Mito can get the money again with a top 10 finish also returning +500 odds.
