Golf pros are preparing for oldest major championship at the home of golf, St. Andrews. The 2022 Open Championship odds feature an elite field at the top of the power rankings.

British Open Golf Picks 2022

Beyond the favorites like Rory McIlroy are a number of dark horses who offer more value as capable contenders.

With longshots in mind, here are three dark horses that could make a run at the British Open leaderboard and come away with the Claret Jug on Sunday or cash in top finishing position prop bets on FanDuel Sportsbook.

1. Tommy Fleetwood (+2800)

Tommy Fleetwood if finding his groove again. The 31-year-old Englishman finished T-5 at the PGA Championship in May and T-4 last week at the Scottish Open with strong play and lower scorers over the weekend in each event. Fleetwood tied for 2nd at the 2019 Open at Royal Portrush where his scrambling play shined, and T12 in 2018 at Carnoustie when he led the field in greens hit. Fleetwood has shown he can thrive under a variety of links conditions, and when the weather is at its worst, he can excel where others flounder with his strength around the greens. Note Fleetwood's flawless record in the Dunhill Links (eight top-15 finishes and twice runner-up), and his key scoring stats at St. Andrew's includes shooting under par in 21 of his 22 rounds at the Old Course.

2. Ryan Fox (+5500)

Ryan Fox's current European Tour form is spectacular. The 35-year-old New Zealand golfer has finishes of 1-15-9-8-2-2-3 in his last seven DP World Tour starts. Fox's links pedigree includes four cuts made in five Open starts and a closing 67 at St. Andrews in the 2015 Open Championship. He also shot an opening-round 64 at St. Andrews during the 2019 Dunhill Links, and his first-round leader odds are +5000.

3. Justin Rose (+6000)

Justin Rose has made seven straight cuts at the Open Championship and the 41-year-old Englishman could make his way to a top-10 or 20 finish as he did in 2015 at St. Andrews (T-6). He's also finished T-2 and T-20 in two of the last three British Open's, and has often had fast starts as a first round leader. Rose did finish T-4 recently at the Canadian Open, and could scramble his way up the leaderboard with more consistency this week.
