Cubs Get Concerning News With Latest Nico Hoerner Injury Update

Updated:

The Chicago Cubs are trying to end the 2022 MLB season on a high note, but that became tougher after losing infielder Nico Hoerner to injury on Sunday night. The 25-year-old exited during the sixth inning of the Cubs' 4-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants with an arm injury, leaving fans waiting for an update.

Unfortunately, the latest news regarding Hoerner's injury is concerning. Cubs insider Tony Andracki reports that the former Stanford product left due to triceps tightness, leaving his availability for Monday up in the air.

Nico Hoerner Injury Update

MLB reporter Jordan Bastian says that the injury occurred when Hoerner made a diving stop in the fifth inning. His removal was done out of caution and the Cubs expect to have an update before they tangle with the New York Mets on Monday.

Even if Hoerner's injury doesn't end up being serious, this isn't the news that Cubs fans wanted to hear. He's been one of the club's most consistent and available players this season, suiting up in 125 games this season — second only to Ian Happ (136).

Hopefully, Hoerner has a quick recovery and ends the season on a high note. He's set career-highs across the board in 2022, racking up 21 doubles, nine home runs, 49 RBIs and 18 steals while slashing .291/.338/.421.

Cubs vs Mets Odds (Sept. 12)

Whether or not Hoerner plays, winning at Citi Field will be difficult on Monday. FanDuel Sportsbook lists the Cubs as +260 moneyline underdogs against the Mets, who are favored at -320 odds — an implied probability of 76.2%.
