Commanders Get Disappointing Chase Young Injury Update Before Week 8

Updated:

Washington Commanders defensive lineman Chase Young has yet to play a game in 2022. The 2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year continues to work back from a knee injury and the coaching staff is taking things slow.

The team had some hope that Young could return (at least to practice) for a Week 8 clash with the Indianapolis Colts, however that's now off the table.

Commanders insider JP Finlay reported Wednesday that the team is not ready to officially designate Young's return from the IR.

This isn't because of a setback, but Finlay indicates the staff if not ready to start the clock on his return. Once a player returns from the IR, they have only 21 days to be officially activated or they are forced back onto the IR for the remainder of the season.

This could be a simple case of good roster management, and definitely a sign of the value Washington places on Young. The third year-pro met with Dr. James Andrews last week and while he may be close to making his 2022 debut, it'll be on hold for a little longer. Washington is not interested in the defensive face of the franchise aggravating his knee injury because of a rush back to the field.

Don't be surprised if Young is able to return to the practice field next week.
