Christian Kirk Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (New Team, Higher Upside)

Christian Kirk Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (New Team, Higher Upside)

Updated:

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk enters the 2022 NFL season following a career year with the Arizona Cardinals. Now on a four-year, $72 million deal with his new team, the former Texas A&M product looks to take his game to the next level after ending the 2021 campaign as the WR26 in PPR fantasy football formats.

As great as Kirk was last year, his potential was capped due to his playing second fiddle to DeAndre Hopkins. Now as the Jaguars' No. 1 WR, can the 25-year-old crack the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career?

Christian Kirk Fantasy Football Outlook

Kirk came awfully close to 1,000 receiving yards in his last season with the Cardinals. Playing all 17 games for his former club, he finished with career-highs in both receptions (77) and yards (982), capping off his fourth campaign with five touchdowns as well.

Now, Kirk has a great chance to improve as Jacksonville's top passing target. Obviously, Trevor Lawrence isn't exactly Kyler Murray, but he doesn't need to be. Kirk will see the lion's share of the sophomore quarterback's targets, which should pay off over the course of the fantasy year.

Kirk may not have a ton of chemistry with Lawrence at the moment, but his 74.8% catch percentage from last year should make him one of the signal-caller's go-to targets.

Though the Jaguars had a bottom-10 passing attack last year, the 214 passing yards they averaged over their final three games actually ranked 15th-best over that stretch. While that isn't the best, it shows that there is potential for better year-long results as early as Week 1.

Fellow WR Marvin Jones Jr. and tight end Evan Engram are Kirk's only real competition for targets. In other words, managers shouldn't worry about Kirk's spot on the depth chart. As long as he stays healthy, he'll be Jacksonville's WR1 from start to finish.

Christian Kirk Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook aren't anything special for Kirk. For instance, he's available at only +6000 (T-No. 35) to lead the league in receiving yards.

FanDuel has set Kirk's projected receiving yards total at 800.5 with -112 odds on both the over and under. The Scottsdale, AZ native averaged 12.8 yards per reception in 2021, meaning he'd need about 63 or so catches to finish with the over — a total that he's surpassed twice in the last three seasons.

Is Christian Kirk a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

Even on a new team, Kirk is a fantastic fantasy football pick. He's always been quite talented, but now being given a chance to be a No. 1 wideout should take his game to the next level. The Jaguars will also likely trail more often than not, meaning that game script should tend to favor the passing game.

Kirk ranks as the WR40 on The Duel's PPR player rankings, which might be low to some. Meanwhile, FantasyPros lists him having an average draft position of 107.0, making him someone who likely won't be available by the time the ninth round ends in 12-team drafts.
