Chiefs-Odell Beckham Rumors Heating Up Ahead of Return

The Kansas City Chiefs' status as one of the clear Super Bowl contenders means they'll always be a hot destination for star free agents. One marquee name still on the market is Odell Beckham Jr., and there's been murmurs linking Kansas City to him as he eyes a potential November return from a torn ACL.

A new report has now added fuel to the Chiefs-OBJ rumors.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Matt Bowden report Kansas City is looking to add a wideout and "would welcome one more outside threat." However, the team's lack of cap space means "money is an issue" that could prevent the Chiefs from nabbing OBJ, according to the insiders.

Though the financials are an obstacle in the way of KC's Beckham pursuit, the potential for both sides is obvious. The Chiefs' wide receiving corps is lacking a true No. 1 option and instead relying on a carousel of players to step up on a weekly basis. OBJ could immediately step into a leading role on an obvious championship contender and prove he's worth a multi-year deal after his significant injury.

Travis Kelce has risen to the occasion and shouldered the receiving load in the early going, but adding a player of Beckham's stature would alleviate some of the pressure off of the star tight end. They'd form a dynamic 1-2 punch and make things even easier for the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mecole Hardman.

KC will face major competition to sign Beckham, with the Los Angeles Rams pegged as the current frontrunner. The Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills are all in the running as well, making this a hotly contested free-agent sweepstakes.
