Chiefs Get Concerning JuJu Smith-Schuster Injury News After AFC Championship

Updated:

The Kansas City Chiefs won the battle against the Cincinnati Bengals in Sunday's AFC Championship Game, but several key players sustained injuries along the way. One of those players was Chiefs receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, who exited the game in the third quarter with a knee injury.

Based on initial reports, the injury sounded fairly serious.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Injury Update

Apparently, Smith-Schuster was barely able to climb the stairs to Kansas City's locker room after leaving the field. That's not a great sign for the 26-year-old wideout, who played a pivotal role in the Kansas City offense this season.

There aren't many specific details yet on Smith-Schuster's injury or his recovery timeline, but it's a concerning development nevertheless. Thankfully for the Chiefs, he has two full weeks to heal before they face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57.

Smith-Schuster's presence will be critical for Kansas City after serving as the team's leading wide receiver this year. The former Pro Bowler led the Chiefs' WRs in targets (101), receptions (78), and receiving yards (933), trailing only tight end Travis Kelce in all three categories.

His status will be even more important in light of injuries to fellow pass-catchers Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman, both of whom exited Sunday's game as well. With injuries to see many key players, Kansas City is currently listed as a 1.5-point underdog on FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl odds.
