The St. Louis Cardinals experienced a shakeup in the broadcast booth this offseason after longtime play-by-play announcer Dan McLaughlin resigned from his post following an arrest over suspected driving while intoxicated. McLaughlin's departure creates a big hole after serving in his role for 24 years.

A search is underway for a potential replacement, but one notable name reportedly turned down a chance to interview for the role.

MLB Network's Greg Amsinger declined the opportunity to talk about the opening, according to ESPN radio host Randy Karraker. Instead, Amsinger has opted to re-up with MLBN on a new four-year deal.

Amsinger rose to prominence as a leading voice for the CBS College Sports Network. His college basketball work helped him land a job at MLB Network in 2009, where he still remains to this day as host of "MLB Tonight."

This is yet another candidate that's turned down the job after Joe Buck and Bob Costas also opted not pursue it. Targeting someone like the 43-year-old Amsinger makes a ton of sense, as finding a long-term option should be the primary focus of the search.
