Cardinals Get Bad News With Latest Nolan Gorman Injury Update

The St. Louis Cardinals have gotten off to a strong 28-21 start to the 2022 MLB season, trailing the Milwaukee Brewers by three games in the NL Central race. While the Cardinals would love to cut down that deficit in the coming days, they'll have to do so without second baseman Nolan Gorman.
The former 2018 first-round pick missed Tuesday's 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres with lower-back stiffness. This news might be concerning to the Cardinals fanbase because it's the same injury that caused Gorman to miss time during Spring Training.
Nolan Gorman was not available tonight with lower back stiffness. Similar to spring, not as severe. #stlcards

Nolan Gorman Injury Update
Although there isn't a return timetable just yet, the Cardinals have already announced that Gorman will be sidelined for Wednesday's contest against the Padres as well. He's still being considered day-to-day, but more time is clearly needed to better assess the situation.
Gorman began the 2022 baseball season by destroying 15 home runs in 34 games with Triple-A Memphis, earning his long-awaited call-up. He hasn't disappointed at all since hitting the Majors, tallying two HRs and seven RBIs while slashing .387/.472/.677 in 31 at-bats over 10 games.
For reference, Gorman would be on pace for about 32 HRs and 113 RBIs in a 162-game season. It's improbable for him to maintain that production, but the Cardinals are hoping that his injury is only a minor hiccup that'll see him pick up from where he left off upon his return.
Gorman Rookie of the Year Odds
Assuming his injury doesn't hamper him too much, Gorman is one of the top picks to be named 2022 National League Rookie of the Year. The 22-year-old currently has the second-best odds (+300) to win this year's NL ROY trophy, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
