The Tampa Bay Buccaneers used a gritty second-half performance against the Arizona Cardinals to keep their playoff hopes alive in Week 16. Unfortunately, the 19-16 win left Tampa Bay with another brutal injury on their offensive line.

Starting in place of the injured left tackle Donovan Smith -- who'd been ruled out because of a foot injury earlier in the week -- Josh Wells went down with a knee injury in the second quarter, leaving the game on a cart.

Team insider Rick Stroud confirmed a devastating injury update in the wee hours of the morning on Monday.

According to Stroud, Wells suffered a torn patellar tendon and his year is finished. Backup guard Brandon Walton filled in for Wells after the injury.

Considering Tampa Bay's matchup against Arizona's third-string quarterback Trace McSorley, Sunday's performance was a dismal effort from the Buccaneers. But a win is still a win, especially with the regular season approaching the finish line.

Tampa Bay will try to even its record at .500 with another victory in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers. The Bucs are currently listed as 3.5-point home favorites against their division rivals on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
