Cleveland Browns (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Carolina Panthers (0-0, 0-0 Home)

Time: 1 p.m. ET
Venue: Bank of America Stadium — Charlotte, NC
Coverage: CBS

Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season includes a showdown between the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers. The Browns are at less than 100% due to Deshaun Watson's 11-game suspension, meaning Jacoby Brissett is starting under center for now. It'll be interesting to see how the veteran quarterback's presence affects Cleveland's offense for better or worse.

Meanwhile, Panthers QB Baker Mayfield has all the motivation in the world to score a victory over his former team. Even though Carolina is far from the best team, Mayfield has weapons like DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey to help make the Browns regret moving on from him as easily as they did.

Browns vs Panthers Odds & Spread

All NFL betting lines, odds and prop bets are from FanDuel Sportsbook.
Moneyline: CLE: (+100) | CAR: (-118)
Spread: CLE: +1.5 (-110) | CAR: -1.5 (-110)
Total: 41.5 — Over: (-115) | Under: (-105)

Updated (Sunday, Sept. 11, 11:55 a.m. EST): Updated odds were provided from FanDuel Sportsbook. Money has come in on the Browns, with this matchup looking closer than originally anticipated. The point spread fell from 2.5 points to just 1.5, and Cleveland's moneyline odds improved to +100.

The Panthers enter this contest as the favorite on the moneyline and the spread. This 1 p.m. ET clash also features a total of 41.5, which ranks among the lowest of this week's NFL projected totals.

Browns vs Panthers Prediction & Pick

If Watson was playing, it'd be easy to choose the Browns here. However, his absence combined with Mayfield's motivation makes the Panthers a legitimate threat to win. Brissett has had his struggles in the past and if Carolina gets a lead early on, it'll be harder for Cleveland to bounce back.

With how badly the Browns disrespected Mayfield, it's clear that the Panthers QB has a chip on his shoulder. Carolina is going to do everything in its power to help the veteran gunslinger emerge victorious, especially with the home crowd's support. At the end of the day, I don't know if the Browns are ready to handle that.

Final Score Prediction: Panthers: 27 | Browns: 20

Browns vs Panthers Betting Trends

- Cleveland is 1-5 straight up in its last six road games
- Carolina is 4-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last six games against Cleveland.
- The total has hit the under in each of Cleveland's last five games against NFC South teams.
- The total has hit the over in six of Carolina's last eight games.

Browns vs Panthers Best Bet

All NFL betting lines, odds and prop bets are available on FanDuel Sportsbook.

If the Panthers are going to win, the spread is the most playable option here. As mentioned above, Carolina is 4-2 ATS in its last six meetings against Cleveland and with the Browns missing Watson, I see that trend continuing in Week 1.

Bet: Panthers -1.5 (-110)
