Broncos Get Disappointing Latavius Murray Update Ahead of Thursday Night Football

Updated:

With their new-look offense already off to a slow 2-2 start, the Denver Broncos were dealt a brutal blow when No. 1 running back Javonte Williams went down with a season-ending injury last week. The team quickly addressed this roster vacancy with the addition of veteran Latavius Murray, a move largely applauded by insiders around the league.

Denver actually snagged Murray from the New Orleans Saints' practice squad on Monday following a strong Week 4 debut where he tallied 1 touchdown and 57 yards on the ground in Alvin Kamara's absence.

Unfortunately, getting up to speed in just four days was too much of a challenge for Murray.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that Murray is expected to be inactive for Denver's TNF clash with the Indianapolis Colts. He cites it as being "too quick a turnaround from London and with a new system," so it looks like the Broncos will have to roll with Melvin Gordon and Mike Boone during this primetime showdown.

Rapoport does believe Denver's Week 6 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers is a more realistic debut for Murray and his new offense. Gordon and Boone each had 3 carries apiece in the team's Week 4 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, so it will be interesting to see if either back emerges as a more reliable option against Indianapolis.

As of now, the Broncos are listed as slim 3.5-point home favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
