Brock Purdy Out-Played Jalen Hurts the Last Time They Met Head-to-Head

The San Francisco 49ers booked their tickets to the NFC Championship Game after a gritty win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, and now all attention turns towards the Philadelphia Eagles. While this is nothing new for San Francisco, a team that's been at least to the conference championship game in all of their last five playoff appearances, it's new for rookie Brock Purdy.
Thrust into the starting role because of another QB injury, Purdy was been dynamic and is off to a perfect 5-0 start in his young career. And Jalen Hurts may be having an MVP-level season, but the two quarterbacks have actually met head-to-head once before, and Purdy turned in the better agme of the two.
The last time Jalen Hurts and Brock Purdy faced off was in a 42-41 classic in 2019. Oklahoma held off a furious Iowa State 4Q rally and won when ISU tried for a 2-point conversion and failed.

The meeting dates back to their collegiate days. Purdy manned the offense at Iowa State while Hurts finished he career with the Oklahoma Sooners.
This was a classic high-scoring Big 12 affair as both offenses went back-and-forth in a contest where Oklahoma walked away with a 42-41 victory at home. Hurts may have grabbed the victory, but it was Purdy's performance that should have won the game.
Purdy went off for a combined six touchdowns. He threw five of these scores, added one on the ground and did not commit a single turnover. The former Cyclone ended up with 282 passing yards and another 55 yards on the ground.
Hurts had a great game, but it didn't quite live up to Purdy's standards. The current Eagles' gunslinger tossed for 273 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, and scored twice on the ground. The lone turnover should have cost Oklahoma the game.
In fact, Iowa State tied the game at the end of regulation but went for the win with a two-point attempt. The Cyclones didn't convert on this game-winning play and Hurts saved an important collegiate win.
