Brewers Pitcher Linked to Trade Rumors at Start of Offseason

Updated:

The 2022-23 MLB offseason is officially underway following the World Series. One team to watch this winter is the Milwaukee Brewers, who are looking to shake things up after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

With offseason activity about to ramp up, one Brewers player has been mentioned in trade rumors.

In a recent article by MLB insider Mark Feinsand, he mentioned starting pitcher Corbin Burnes as a "potential" candidate to be moved. Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers and Oakland Athletics catcher Sean Murphy were also noted as possible trade targets for opposing teams.

Feinsand's reporting confirms speculation that Burnes could find a new home in 2023. Milwaukee surely doesn't want to move the 28-year-old, who's coming off of two straight All-Star nods and an NL Cy Young win last season. However, trading a top pitching talent would net the Brewers a massive haul and provide flexibility to sign other important pieces to extensions, like fellow starter Brandon Woodruff.

Burnes would be a hot commodity if made available. He followed up his Cy Young-winning campaign with 12 wins in 2022, recording a 2.94 ERA across a majors-leading 33 starts. His 243 strikeouts this season paced the NL as well.

Burnes' uncertain furture in Milwaukee is one major story to monitor this offseason.
