Brewers Get Bad News With Christian Yelich Injury Update

Updated:

Thursday could not have gone worse for the Milwaukee Brewers. The team not only suffered a 5-0 loss to the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks, but Christian Yelich also departed in the fourth inning with an apparent injury.

The update on Yelich after his early exit is certainly concerning.

The former NL MVP left Thursday's outing with neck "discomfort". Manager Craig Counsell revealed after the game Yelich "irritated" the area after a swing during his second at-bat.

While Counsell put an initial "day-to-day" timeline on the issue, this is still a cause for concern. Yelich is no stranger to injuries, and there's always a chance this tricky area doesn't recover in time for him to make a quick return.

This new ailment is also frustrating after Yelich was just starting to find his groove again at the plate. He had just racked up nine hits across 25 at-bats during the previous homestand, hitting two home runs and recording six RBIs after being in a previous slump.

Even if Yelich sits for a few contests, his absence is one that Milwaukee's struggling offense can't afford with just one month left before the postseason. Hopefully the Brewers, who are currently trailing the San Diego Padres by three games for the final NL Wild Card spot, can get their All-Star outfielder back in short order before their playoff chances (currently +120 on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds) take too much of a hit.
