Gunite (7/2) and Laurel River (9/2) own all the early pace in this race and will dispute the lead while Simplification (15/1) will be applying pressure behind that pair throughout. Pressers that are best at 2-turn routes will be the best win contenders.

That makes Laurel River with Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding for controversial trainer Bob Baffert a top win contender. He won with a top speed figure to close 2021 and returned off a long layoff to crush foes including nine others in the Pat O'Brien stakes. He's now 2-for-2 going the 2-turn mile with great balance and turn of foot acceleration. Training superbly leading into the race as well.

A lot of sentiment for closer Cody's Wish (5/2), who has won 6 of his last 7 starts. The Bill Mott-trained colt is better on 1-turn races, but with a fast pressured pace projected, Cody's Wish will be closing with a rush. He beat top runner Jackie's Warrior last race in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes and posted a stunning BRIS Late Pace figure of 119 in the process.
