Braves Get Terrible News With Latest Ozzie Albies Injury Update

Updated:

The Atlanta Braves extended their winning streak to 12 games on Monday night with a 9-5 victory over the Washington Nationals, but it came at a cost. Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies exited during the fifth inning with a foot injury and the latest update isn't what fans want to hear.

Further testing has revealed that Albies fractured his foot while attempting a swing last night. Although an official recovery timetable hasn't been revealed, the two-time MLB All-Star will likely end up with an injured list stint.

Ozzie Albies Injury Update

Most medical experts have the recovery time for a fractured foot at six-to-eight weeks, as long as surgery isn't required. Either way, it's looking like Braves fans likely won't be seeing Albies until later in July or early August.

After finishing 13th in 2021 NL MVP voting, Albies has struggled to replicate last season's production. While he has eight home runs and 30 RBIs in 62 games thus far, his slash line (.244/.289/.405) is noticeably down from last year (.259/.310/.488). He's also been caught stealing five times — the most in the MLB.

Orlando Arcia took over for Albies at second after the injury occurred and will likely see a bulk of the starts until the 25-year-old returns. Arcia has spent most of his time on the bench this season, recording a home run with eight RBIs while slashing .313/.393/.458 in 48 at-bats.

Braves vs Nationals Odds (June 14)

Arcia and the Braves have a chance to avenge Albies' injury when they have a rematch with the Nationals on Tuesday. FanDuel Sportsbook has Atlanta as the -250 favorite on the moneyline, while Washington is the +205 underdog.
