Braves' Stance on Ronald Acuna Jr. Trade Revealed

Updated:

The official start of the MLB offseason has already seen a few trades go down as teams tweak their rosters for the 2023 campaign. This early movement has prompted fans to speculate what big names could potentially swap clubs, with Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. being discussed as one candidate.

Now Atlanta's official stance on an Acuna deal has been revealed.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports the Braves "not considering trading" Acuna, or "any other young player they have signed to an extension." Rosenthal notes that while the three-time All-Star doesn't officially have a no-trade clause in his contract, there's an "implicit understanding" that any player who signs an extension with the team won't be dealt without permission.

This should put any talk of Acuna moving this offseason to bed. It's unclear why he was brought up as a trade candidate by outsiders anyways considering his importance to the club.

Acuna certainly did struggle by his standards in 2022, recording 15 home runs and 50 RBIs over 119 games. He admitted he was still affected by last year's ACL tear once he returned, though, so it's no wonder he wasn't quite in MVP form.

Acuna now gets an entire offseason to get his body right, so he should be back to 100% for the 2023 campaign. His return to superstar production would be huge for the Braves as they vie to get back to World Series contention.
