Braves News: Ronald Acuna Reveals How Knee Injury Is Still Affecting His Play

Updated:

Ronald Acuna Jr. is one of the brightest young players in the MLB today, however, a history of knee injuries has limited his potential. Though his health is better this year and he's on pace to play 107 games (his most since 2019), the aftermath of last season's ACL tear is still affecting his play today.

After Acuna's Atlanta Braves lost 6-4 to the New York Mets on Thursday, the 24-year-old spoke to reporters about his knee issues. Through a translator, Acuna said that the injury sometimes affects the way he swings, however, he acknowledges that "it's all part of the process."

Acuna clarified that the ACL tear has caused his confidence to vary. He feels more confident in his swing on some nights compared to others, however, Thursday's game was an example of him feeling good. The home run that he recorded in the top of the fifth inning was his first since July 8.

Even though getting used to a major injury can be rough, the important thing is that Acuna hasn't let the experience get the best of him. Instead, he's had quite a positive mindset about the situation.

After playing well in May and June, Acuna's play took a hit once July rolled around. He's recorded only two home runs and eight RBIs with a .217 batting average in his last 27 games, striking out 24 times over that stretch. As great as the Braves are, he needs to be better than that to help them win another World Series.

Fortunately, Acuna has had success against the Mets throughout his career and can continue that trend on Friday. In 53 meetings against New York, the superstar has 64 hits, 13 HRs, 34 RBIs and a .298/.379/.558 slash line.
