Rumors Link Bills to Top Running Back Ahead of Free Agency

Updated:

The Buffalo Bills will head into free agency looking to improve in several areas as they seek their first Super Bowl appearance during the Josh Allen era. One position Buffalo has explored additions to recently is running back, with the team even being involved in the Christian McCaffrey sweepstakes.

Now as free agency approaches, the Bills have been linked to another top available running back.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press recently reported on Jamaal Williams' future with the Lions. While both sides are very open to a return, several teams are "expected" to be interested in the RB, including Buffalo.

Adding Williams would be a massive boost to the Bills' high-powered offense in 2023. The sixth-year pro is coming off of a breakout 2022 campaign where he set career highs in yards (1,063) and attempts (262) while leading the league with a whopping 17 rushing touchdowns.

Williams was particularly deadly in scoring position, which Buffalo finds itself in more often than not. The powerful runner led the league with 16 TDs inside the 20, including 14 from inside the 5-yard line, so he knows how to punch it in from close.

Brining in a player like Williams that can finish drives with six points could take this offense to another level after stalling out, at times, in the red zone this past season. He's also more than capable of taking over in short-yardage situations, allowing Josh Allen to avoid extra wear and tear on his body.
