Big Update Emerges on Dalvin Cook's Vikings Future
By Larry Rupp

Dalvin Cook has been a mainstay on the Minnesota Vikings' offense over the last six seasons, racking up 7,787 yards from scrimmage to go along with 52 touchdowns. His talent has been on consistent display, but that doesn't mean his cap hit of over $14 million in 2023 is an easily justifiable amount.
ESPN writer Kevin Seifert touched on this topic in his latest piece, describing how the the Vikings have yet to explain why they re-signed backup RB Alexander Mattison to a two-year deal that includes $6.35 million in guarantees. It's one sign that Cook could be on his way out of the franchise.
The Vikings have been vague about some of their offseason acquisitions. Why? In some cases, it appears they've signed replacements for players who are still on the roster. "Everything still seems to me to be a plan that is in motion." https://t.co/g7XEsjo6UK

It can't be overlooked that in addition to the Mattison signing, Minnesota has a fairly new general manager in Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. He comes from a analytics background, which is worth noting as Cook is an aging ball-carrier with enough wear and tear on his body to see his production decrease.
"Based on everything that we've seen, and what has gone unsaid, it's almost impossible to believe that Cook will remain on the roster at his current numbers. He'll either accept a significant pay cut, get traded or be released."
- ESPN Writer Kevin Seifert
Reports have come up throughout the offseason that Cook does not want to take a pay cut, which could push the idea of a trade. The 28-year-old would undoubtedly receive interest from NFL teams and completing a deal prior to June 1st would net Minnesota $7.9 million in available cap space.
Cook is currently recovering from surgery as he opted to correct a broken shoulder in February. It's something that could put the idea of a trade on hold as teams look to see if the Florida State product will be ready to go by OTAs. A move could be on the horizon either before or after the NFL Draft.
