3 Best NFL Quarterbacks to Ever Come Out of Auburn
The Auburn Tigers football program has been among the best in NCAA history. They continue to recruit quality talent and compete against other terrific programs in the SEC. Strong recruitment and development has also led to Auburn putting many great players into the NFL.
Auburn has even put talented quarterbacks into the NFL. Jarrett Stidham has been the most recent one, with the second-year passer competing to start for the New England Patriots this season. He has the potential to be among the greatest to come out of the program, but let's look at the three best NFL quarterbacks ever to come out of Auburn.
3. Pat Sullivan (1972-75)
Pat Sullivan was certainly more accomplished in college than in his professional career. Drafted 40th overall by the Atlanta Falcons, Sullivan did not make an NFL start until his third season. Even then, he made just four starts in his NFL career. The results were not good, losing all four games. Stidham will likely be moved onto this list this season, if he makes any starts. But for now, Sullivan is the third-best NFL quarterback to come out of Auburn, almost by default.
2. Jason Campbell (2006-14)
Drafted 25th overall by the Washington Redskins, Jason Campbell also had a long NFL career. He made 79 starts over his nine seasons, passing for 16,771 yards and 87 touchdowns to go along with 1.204 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Campbell made starts with the Redskins, Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns, before wrapping up his career with the Cincinnati Bengals.
1. Cam Newton (2011-Present)
Cam Newton is easily the most accomplished quarterback to come out of Auburn. He has been in the NFL for nine seasons, making it to the Super Bowl and winning NFL MVP in that time. He has totaled 29,041 yards and 182 touchdowns through the air to go along with 4,806 yards and 58 touchdowns rushing. He is among the best mobile quarterbacks in NFL history.
