Baylor vs Texas Tech Prediction, Odds & Best Bet for Week 9

Updated:

Week 9 of the 2022 NCAA college football season includes has several rivalry matchups scheduled, including a Big 12 clash between the Baylor Bears and Texas Tech Red Raiders. Both schools are 2-2 against their conference this season, making it interesting to see who comes out on top.

Can Baylor defeat its rival to help climb up the Big 12 standings? Or will Texas Tech improve to 5-0 at home this season?

Baylor vs Texas Tech Odds

According to FanDuel Sportsbook's college football odds, Texas Tech is a slight -126 favorite on the moneyline (2.5-point spread) in a game with a 60.5-point over/under.

What should college football fans expect in this matchup, and where can bettors find value?

Baylor vs Texas Tech Prediction and Best Bet

The Baylor-Texas Tech rivalry is about as even as it gets. The two sides have met 78 times since 1932, leading to 39 wins for the Red Raiders and 38 for the Bears with one tie mixed in there. Having said that, it's been Baylor that's won eight of the last 11 meetings.

Still, it'll be tough for Baylor to continue its success in this rivalry. On top of Texas Tech being 4-0 at home this season, the Red Raiders have the fourth-best passing attack in the nation. That could spell trouble for a Bears team that gives up an average of 283.3 passing yards on the road, ranking 107th of the 131 FBS schools.

It's also worth noting that Texas Tech just defeated West Virginia, 48-10, last week. For reference, that's the same Mountaineers team that beat Baylor, 43-40, just nine days before that. The Red Raiders also put up 31 points in their loss to Oklahoma State, while the Bears were held to 25 points one week prior.

Texas Tech hasn't lost to Baylor at home since 1990. Though the Red Raiders were defeated by their Big 12 rivals on the road and at neutral site games, going 2-4 at Jones AT&T Stadium against Baylor.

Texas Tech is also 5-1 against the spread in its last six games against Baylor, so I have no issue taking Texas Tech to cover the 2.5-point spread.

I'm also backing the total hitting over 60.5 points. Both schools have top-40 offenses this season and tend to bring out the best in each other, which should lead to a high-scoring affair.
