Andy Reid Shares Update on Kadarius Toney's Health

Updated:

The Kansas City Chiefs gave Patrick Mahomes a new weapon last week when they acquired Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants. Chiefs fans are wondering when the oft-injured wideout will make his team debut as Kansas City comes off its Week 8 bye.

Fortunately, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had a promising update on Monday afternoon. According to insider Herbie Teope, Reids said that Toney "is now healthy" after a recent hamstring issue, which is promising news ahead of a Week 9 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Kadarius Toney Injury Update

For fans anticipating a major workload for Toney, expectations must be tempered. Reid still needs to see "how he fits" into the lineup, which "will be a gradual process."

Toney hasn't played since Week 2, so he might need a little while to get back up to game speed. The second-year wideout doesn't have a ton of NFL experience yet, either, with just 12 career games (5 starts) under his belt.

While Mahomes has once again terrorized opposing defenses this season, he's lacked a true No. 1 WR since Tyreek Hill's departure. Though the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster, Randall Cobb and Marquez Valdes-Scantling have been solid at times, no one has come close to replicating Hill's elite production.

Toney certainly appears to have the tools to be a No. 1 wideout. The 2021 first-round draft pick has tremendous athleticism and incredible speed, much like Hill. He's not a flawless route-runner by any means, but he's also in a terrific position to improve in that regard with the pass-happy Chiefs.

The key for Toney to succeed is staying healthy. If he can do that, the sky is the limit for the 23-year-old wideout.
