Alvin Kamara Injury Update Sends Mark Ingram Fantasy Outlook Skyrocketing in Week 2

The New Orleans Saints will be looking for their eighth consecutive regular season win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but they will be without a key offensive playmaker. Running back Alvin Kamara is not expected to suit up, which sends Mark Ingram's fantasy outlook skyrocketing.

Kamara has been dealing with a nagging rib injury for the past week and did not practice with the team on Thursday or Friday. Running backs get hit on nearly every play, which makes the idea of playing with sore ribs a scary one. The Saints certainly don't want to risk further injury here.

Meanwhile, Ingram was a limited participant in all three practice this past week and is expected to play on Sunday. He is in line to see an increased workload against a familiar defense. Ingram has posted 673 yards from scrimmage and scored 7 touchdowns in 14 career games against Tampa Bay.

Fantasy managers have to keep in mind that Ingram tallied 247 total yards and 1 touchdown in three games without Kamara in 2021. He was given 40 carries during that span and hauled in 11 of his 17 targets in the passing game. The New Orleans' coaching staff is not afraid to rely on the veteran RB.

While Tampa Bay's formidable rush defense does limit Ingram's upside, the game script here does the exact opposite. This is expected to be a close contest with a spread set at just 2.5 points on FanDuel Sportsbook. That would mean Ingram could be seeing touches all the way up until the final whistle.

For now, Ingram is positioned well as a viable FLEX option with RB2 upside against the Buccaneers.
