Running back Alvin Kamara was forced to miss the New Orleans Saints' Week 2 game with a rib injury and it threw fantasy managers for a loop. After all, this is a player that was taken in the second round of drafts this fall. The good news is that the New Orleans Saints star has been ruled active in Week 3.
Alvin Kamara Fantasy Outlook
Kamara was listed as questionable on the Saints' final injury report, which was expected given he only practiced in a limited capacity this past week. That may have been part of a cautious approach by the coaching staff, though, as rib injuries come with lingering pain that can be felt after consistent hits.
There's no reason to overthink this one. Kamara may not pushed to his limit on Sunday, but he is the clear-cut top RB in New Orleans' backfield. He handled 63% of the offensive snaps in a Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons and draws a beneficial matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Carolina has given up the fifth-most rushing yards to opposing RBs in 2022 (269) and has given up a receiving touchdown to the position, too. That is a big deal considering Kamara only posted a 43.6% route run rate in Week 1. He logged 93 receiving yards and 1 touchdown on 9 catches (12 targets) in two meeting against the Panthers in 2021.
Head coach Dennis Allen has a perfect opportunity to get his RB more involved here. Kamara checks in as the RB7 in The Duel's Week 3 PPR fantasy football rankings.
